Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven struck on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores five minutes after the defender's opener, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in role at each end of pitch

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a mere attempts on target, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the face of goal for an free the defender to head home.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - added his next goal in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defensive duties, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo handled superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only a single goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.

Everton: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: The London club go to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle.
